Melly-B, the new name in music is a home girl for Haitian soil. She is a born artist. When she was but a toddler, she danced with a striking intensity to the sound of the troubadours of Ibo Beach in front of a stunned audience. One knew already that it would be her world, dance, song, music, the stage… She sings in French, English, Kreyòl with equal ease because she is international, having lived in countries as varied as Haiti, Holland, Canada, without counting prolonged stays in the United States, in Colombia…
Melly-B’s real name is Mélina Bosschaart. She took part in all art courses offered at school. Whether it was piano, singing, modelling, she was always active. She created choreographies for her classmates and was always noticed for the innate grace of her movements. At 12 years old she took part in a camp in Guadeloupe with the Pearls of the Caribbean dance workshop; in their “step dance”, this troop brings the message of faith and determination: “Youth can change the World”. But their drummer Istvan Dely, who needed a second drum, discovered her talent, the flexibility of her wrists, the insurance of her rhythm. She held the scene with him and he encouraged her to persevere and develop her technique; back in Haiti, she then worked the drum, in particular with Sanba Zao.
She did part of her studies in Holland. In this larger universe she was not immediately at her ease until the day when she joined a hip hop and street dance class. There too, she shone; her teacher kept her after class to create choreographies with her. Back in Haiti, she quickly found Fabienne Denis with whom she worked her voice until her departure for Canada where she went to finish highschool. In this international school, Performing arts have a privileged place, and she created several songs of various genres, hip hop, ballades, soul, R& B, dance hall. Melly-B writes her songs, sings them, accompanies them and records them. She just finished her album called “Only the Beginning”. Ayiti, a nostalgic and serious song on her beloved country has awakened the conscience of more than one.
In spite of her multiple talents; Melly-B is liked by her friends for her generosity, her integrity, her humility. She brings joy wherever she goes. In the hospital rooms where she volunteers, on the soccer field, in the prayer meetings, the fundraisings or other activities she is always noticed. She reflected a long time to identify a profession which captivated her and where she could give herself. But she really wanted to do one thing: to sing, create, perform, to exploit her multiple artistic gifts, and to be of service. She chose well: she will study recording engineering in Holland, after which she intends to return home. Melly-B is a Bahá'í. The message of her Faith stimulates her to prepare to come and contribute her talents and capacities to the construction of a nobler and more just society in Haiti.
Her projects? Her dreams? A dance school? A recording studio? A life of service it will be certainly. But not to worry, she will make her way.
