The Ambrosius branch most probably has split very early from the main branch. Already in 1450 a painter was found in their family. We have found a marriage of Peter BOSSCHAERT en Lysbeth van der Ast (ca.1440) and 160 years later another marriage of Bosschaert and Van der Ast. Ambrosius Bosschaert had a pupil, named Willeken Bosschaert (this means `the small Willy’), according to registers of Antwerp. But we haven’t found the family relation between Willeken and Ambrosius yet? It might be interesting to know.

The paintings of Thomas Willebrordus seem to have made a lot of stir. In Bergen op Zoom was in the years 1930-1940 a Bosschaert-group, with the intention to equal the works of Thomas Willebrordus.

The paintings of the Ambrosius Bosschaert family: Ambrosius-es, Johannes and Abraham Bosschaert have a higher interest. Some works can be found in the museum of Mauritshuis in ‘s Gravenhage and in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. The interaction between the Bosschaerts, Balthasar Van der Ast and Roelandt Savery is clearly present in their masterpieces. Together with Velvet (Jan) Brueghel they almost form a group.
